In 1964 Ronald Reagan delivered his infamous speech “A Time
for Changing” because he saw the country stood at a great crossroad in history.
We stand now at another historical crossroad. The 2008 presidential election
has potential to be a major turning point in our nation. We can turn the corner
and enter a brave new era of American greatness or continue our decent into a
nation of imported products and partisan politics.
Now I’m no Ronald Reagan, and Mike Huckabee may not be Barry
Goldwater but this November will usher in a new chapter in our American story.
Every candidate has used this year’s newest buzzword; ‘change’, so often it’s
lost all meaning. In all the endless chanting of change, they’ve all,
republican and democrat, neglected one vitally important thing, a plan.
Mike Huckabee is the only candidate who has outlined plans
for change. He’s the only one who has viable solutions and the only one willing
to cure the disease instead of merely treating the symptoms.
Unlike other candidate, Gov. Huckabee has stayed positive.
He has outlined his plans without pointing out obvious flaws in his
competitor’s platforms. This has been to his detriment. As much as our water
cooler talk insist we hate the negative politics the numbers day they work.
There has been so many bad feelings and mud slinging in Washington the past few
years. We need someone who looks at us and smiles. We need someone positive and
upbeat. We need Mike Huckabee.
Unlike senators, who posture for position across the aisle
from each other, placing hidden earmarks in important bills, Mike Huckabee has
been in executive officer. He did what “We the People” expect from our elected
officials, he governed. And he governed using the people’s will as his
guideline.
Just the other day at work a friend and I were talking about
the economy. We started talking about the disappearance of American
manufacturing and we finished talking about Congress’ stimulus package. The
package includes a tax rebate. Basically the new congress we elected last year
is paying us back on an interest free loan. This is hush money. They’re trying
to “make us an offer we can’t refuse”.
They give us cash; we don’t mention the horrible job they’ve done. Real
stimulus is a long-term investment. Real solutions fix the problem at the root.
Our congress, including the three senators running for president, is trying to
mop up the flood before fixing the pipe. This stimulus package is equivalent to
putting a band-aid on a bullet wound.
Mike Huckabee has shown the best understanding of our
symbiotic nature of our country. Last summer we watched in horror as the bridge
in Minnesota collapsed. Every state went frantic inspecting their bridges,
hoping to avoid such a crisis. Under a president Huckabee administration,
stimulus would consist of rebuilding, and remodeling our nation’s critical
infrastructure. American workers producing American supplies such as steel and
concrete. Those workers would supply other American workers to plan and build
the infrastructure.
As a former governor Mike Huckabee understands the
importance of a state’s infrastructure on its economic viability and growth
potential. He hasn’t been living off lobbyist in DC and building bridges to nowhere.
As a governor he never had to oversee an infrastructure embarrassment dubbed
“the big dig” which has been a black hole on tax dollars. As I said he was a
governor who governed, not a CEO playing governor. Mike Huckabee’s stimulus
package for us; create jobs and build industry, a no brainer.
Finally, the cornerstone of this candidacy, the only real
change proposed in this election cycle, the Fair
Tax. If your job says you make 30k, 40k, 50k a year, you should take 30k,
40k or 50k home to your family. Eliminating the income tax and closing down the
IRS is the revolutionary change that will jumpstart this nation and bring the
overseas jobs back home.
Have you become so accustom to income taxes coming out of
your pay you don’t even look at your pay stub anymore? Are you tired of the
sick feeling you get in the pit of your stomach every April 15th?
The Fair Tax closes tax shelters you and I can’t afford but our bosses can. The
Fair Tax makes it more affordable, therefore, more sensible for industry to
operate under US law. If you’ve lost your job to outsourcing or are in danger
of a layoff you should read more about the Fair Tax and demand it from your
elected officials. Even if your job is safe right now, more American workers
benefit the nation as a whole. A rising tide raises all boats.
Mike Huckabee is the only candidate brave enough to stand
behind this revolutionary idea. He’s the only one with the vision to see the
promise the Fair Tax holds for this nation. The production that the Fair Tax
will create will enable us to go Christmas shopping and not have to see “Made
in China” on the toys we buy for our children.
Almost a generation ago Ronald Reagan told us that it’s
morning in America. Over twenty years later it still is and can remain, if we
have the will and drive to go out en mass and vote for Mike Huckabee. Tell your
friends to vote for Huckabee, drive them to the polls if you have to. Only
through the real change proposed by Gov. Huckabee, through the Fair Tax can our
Shining City on the Hill continue to shine on as an example for the entire
world.
